Honestly, some look like they’ve assembled themselves from leftover spare parts.

We like to call it the “ugly duckling” stage… only fluffier and with more sass.

What to Expect:

Tufts. Take Too Many Photos
They’ll come in handy when you’re bragging about the glow-up later. Trust us—awkward teen Pom pics are gold.

2. Don’t Shave or Clip
Seriously. Resist the urge. Shaving a Pom can permanently damage their coat and mess with its regrowth. Let nature (and fluff) take its course.

3. Stay on Top of Grooming
Even if they’re patchy, regular brushing helps with coat transition and keeps the skin healthy. Think of it as brushing through the chaos.

4. Feed High-Quality Nutrition
A healthy diet helps support coat development from the inside out. It won’t speed things up, but it will help them glow when the time comes.

5. Be Patient—and Laugh Often
This stage is weird, but it’s also endearing. Your pup doesn’t care what they look like—they just want to play, snuggle, and steal your socks.

6. Connect With Other Pom Parents
Misery loves company—and so do Pom people. Share the ugly phase online or with friends who’ve been through it too.

7. Trust the Process
Your Pomeranian will be fluffy again. Probably fluffier than you imagined. And they’ll thank you for not giving up on their awkward little mullet.

The Truth About the Puppy Uglies (Yes, it’s a real thing.
